Pattern: McCall's 7683
Pattern Description:
I used this pattern to create a black-tie gown. The pattern features many mix-and-match variations, but I chose to use the wide v-neck top with the floor-length skirt with a slit.
Pattern Sizing:
I used size 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, the finished gown looked like the photo on the envelope.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the neckline shape and simplicity of the pattern.
Fabric Used:
Outer layer: Gold geometric sequins on black mesh fabric
Under layer: Black double sand charmeuse
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added a zipper to the back by splitting the back pieces into two rather than using them cut-on-fold as instructed. I added 1" of fabric along the center back to have room for adding the zipper and the center back seam.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I love this pattern and have used it for both a floor-length dress and the variation with the shorter skirt.
Conclusion:
This is a great, simple dress. What I did not like about it was that it is made for knits and is a pull-over style, so it does not have a zipper. The fabric that I used was not stretchy enough, so I had to modify it to add a zipper.
