Breathing Room

"Breathing Room" is a fashion collection that I designed specifically to fit female swimmers. As a swimmer, it has often been hard to find clothes that fit my body properly, especially in the shoulders and across the back. This collection of formal clothing is made to fit the muscular bodies and wide shoulders of swimmers. I drafted original patterns for each fashion piece.

The dresses and jackets do not avoid the shoulders with strapless designs or hide the shoulders behind puffed sleeves, but rather fit the shoulders with room to move and breathe. Some of the dresses have versatile features and can be adjusted to fit a range of sizes (example: dresses with drawstrings in the seams that can be cinched both as a style element and to alter fit). The designs include lots of glittery, metallic, and sheer blue fabrics inspired by the reflective, transparent surface quality of water. The outfits are all modeled on swimmers.
