Ties, dyes, and tie-dye

This casual summer collection includes clothes with ties, natural dyes,, and tie-dye techniques. Natural dyes work best on natural fibers, so I sewed these clothes from lightweight 100% cotton knit fabric and muslin fabric. I hand-dyes the clothes in an indigo bath using the Shibori techniques of folding, binding, and stitching the fabric to create patterns.Shibori is an ancient Japanese method of resist dying, which includes techniques that have influenced modern tie-dye. Indigo dye is a natural blue plant-based dye often used with the Shibori techniques.
