Simplicity 9326 Ruffled-Collar Summer Dress Sewing Pattern Review

Sewing Pattern: Simplicity 9326 https://simplicity.com/simplicity/s9326

Pattern Description:

I sewed this tea-length ruffled garden party dress using the Simplicity S9326 pattern. The pattern has a options for a longer skirt with a slit or a shorter skirt, and for a clean neckline or a neckline with a ruffle. I chose to make the longer dress with the neckline ruffle.

Pattern Sizing:

I used size 12 but it turned out much bigger than expected based on my sizing and my experience with other patterns of the same brand.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes, this instructions were straightforward.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I love the style of the ruffle and was inspired to make it when I saw the photo on the front of the pattern envelope/

Fabric Used:

Dress #1 Fabric: Joann's Green Tonal Abstract Bubble Crepe https://www.joann.com/green-tonal-abstract-bubble-crepe-apparel-fabric/19136985.html

Dress #2 Fabric: Joann's Blue Vine Embroidered With Sequin Mesh Fabric https://www.joann.com/blue-vine-embroidered-with-sequin-mesh-fabric-by-sew-sweet/18271536.html on "Navagio Bay" double sand charmeuse https://www.joann.com/navagio-bay-double-sand-charmesue-fabric/18511410.html

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I had to take in fabric because it was much bigger than expected (about 2" bigger around than expected).

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I love the design and have sewed a few variations of it.

Conclusion:

This is a stylish, ruffled tea-length dress.

Pros:

  • I love the ruffled neckline and think that it worked well with the fabric.

  • Simple, easy-to-sew pattern

  • I like the princess seam style because it made the top easy to fit

Cons:

  • The sizing felt way off from my measurements. The dress was much too big, and I had to tuck 2" per side into the zipper to get the fit right

Overall:

  • I liked this pattern and recommend it, but the fabric chosen is important for the style. The bubble crepe fabric worked well because it added texture to the dress and held the neckline ruffle well. When I made a second dress with this pattern, I used a sanded charmeuse fabric. I initially put a ruffle on, but took it off because the charmeuse was too soft and flowy of a fabric that it did not hold the ruffle well and it looked droopy.
